Angeline's journey is as captivating as the birds she studies. From her childhood in Salem, Tamil Nadu, where the humble thattuvadai was a familiar treat, to the lush landscapes of Sharavathi and beyond, Angeline's path has been one of discovery, transformation, and unwavering dedication to the natural world. We're thrilled to introduce her as one of our exceptional Earth Education Fellows at YouCAN.

A curious question about a bird in 2009 sparked a flame that has only grown brighter over time.

She recalls a moment in 2018 when she realized the depth of her interest, prompting her to seek guidance from experienced birders. This marked a turning point, fueling her desire to learn and understand the avian world.

Fast forward to 2021, and we see Angeline sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with the next generation. Leading a group of eager children on a birding expedition in Jamboothamalai, she embodies the spirit of an educator, nurturing a love for nature in young minds.

Birding, Angeline shares, has been transformative. It has shaped her from an introvert into an explorer, an educator, and a truly wholesome individual. This personal evolution is a testament to the power of connecting with nature, a power that Angeline now channels into her work with YouCAN.

Angeline's commitment to ornithology is evident in her tireless efforts. She's a "GBBC Non-stop Birder," driven by an inspiring motto: "Till there is light I shall not stop birding." Her dedication is reflected in her extensive research (including over 600 hours studying a single species!), her work compiling over 7000 checklists, and her commitment to continuous learning and outreach.

Her impact is far-reaching. Through her work in 50 schools, Angeline has introduced over 2908 children to the wonders of birds, fostering a sense of wonder and environmental stewardship. She helps them play, learn, and truly get to know birds, creating a ripple effect of environmental awareness.

Angeline's journey with YouCAN has been equally impactful. She describes feeling like an "empty cup" before joining the EEF residency program at Sharavathi. The experience, however, filled her cup to overflowing, empowering her and amplifying her already remarkable talents. At YouCAN, we believe, that her cup was never truly empty.
